About Learn To Skate

The Learn To Skate USA program was created to be the best beginning ice-skating program in the world. It is designed to serve the needs of both recreational and competitive skaters. The curriculum keeps skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals. Whether they want Olympic fame or to simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Basic Skills Program is the place to start!

Figure skating is a LIFELONG sport and learning the basic skills only helps with the enjoyment of the sport.  Thank you for choosing the Point Mallard Figure Skating Club’s Learn To Skate USA Basic Skills Program. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at

Mission Statement

The mission of the Basic Skills Program is to provide a goal-oriented program that encourages ice skating at all levels and to enhance the quality of skating skills at these levels.

The objectives of the program are:

  • To provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner as well as the more advanced skater
  • To teach correct technique of the simple basic elements
  • To promote health and physical fitness
  • To enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating advanced test and/or competitive structure

Class Schedule

The PMFSC Basic Skills Classes are currently offered on Thursday and Saturday.  Classes run YEAR ROUND.  If you are interested in classes but are unsure of the commitment of an entire session, come try a class and see if you like it.  After the first class you can then decided if you’d like to enroll for a session.  Skaters will receive 30 minutes of instruction time and 30 minutes of supervised practice time.  It is important to arrive at the rink at least 25 minutes before your scheduled class time to allow time for putting on skates and stretching.

Class Times:
Thursday                 5:20pm-6:20pm    (Beginner/Intermediate LTS)
Saturday                  9:45am-10:45am and Adults 10:45am-11:15am (Beginner, Intermediate and Adult Learn to Skate)

*class days and times subject to change

Cost & Enrollment

Classes offered by the PMFSC only include the lesson fee.  Ice time is made payable to the Point Mallard Ice Complex at $10.00 per hour or you may purchase an unlimited freestyle ice time pass for $100.00 per month.  The cost of rental skates IS included in the class fee.

We do NOT turn away anyone that is interested in skating.  The PMFSC offers different options for your skating lessons.  If you are not sure if you’d like to register for an entire class session we can register you for a “Just Try Skating” pass.  To enroll in classes each person will need to complete the LTS Form and pay for the session.

Most sessions are 8 weeks and are $52.00.  If you’d like to just try skating for one lesson it is $6.50.

Payment should be made at the beginning of the skating session to the designated Club representative prior to class (payment will only be for the Coaching fee, not for ice time). Payment is accepted via CASH, CHECK or CREDIT CARD.

Along with the weekly/monthly class fee there is a ONE-TIME ANNUAL registration fee of $50.00.  This fee automatically makes your skater a member of the Point Mallard Figure Skating Club, the Learn To Skate USA program and ISI.  With membership comes benefits.  Skaters of the PMFSC are eligible to compete for the PMFSC Team at area competitions, able to purchase Club merchandise, skate at Club Skates for free and many more.
