Featured Skater
The Point Mallard Figure Skating Club is proud to announce that we are honoring our Club members by featuring one skater each month as a Featured Skater. This will provide the skater an opportunity to express who they are, what skating means to them and what their accomplishments/goals are.
This month's Featured Skater is:
Laura Beth Matus
Age: 10
Years Skating: 1 Year, steady.
I took lessons and skated in a couple of shows when I was 5, but I always got too cold. I started the Special Olympics program when I turned 9 and loved it
Skating Levels:
ISI – Special Skater 3
USFS – Special Olympics
Why did you start skating?
I started to skate because my sister and my Mom skate. I wanted to do the same thing.
What is your favorite thing about skating?
My favorite thing about skating is being able to get out on the ice with all my friends, my coach, my Mom, and my sister. I love ice skating competitions and shows the most.
What was your favorite competition experience?
My favorite competition experience was skating the Addams Family Spotlight. I was the character "Wednesday”. We got first place at the Wind Rain or Shine Competition.
What was your most embarrassing skating moment?
My most embarrassing skating moment was when I got too scared to get on the ice during a competition. My Mom put me on the ice, and then I wasn’t scared any more.
What are your skating goals?
I want to learn how to jump and spin.
Tell us something about yourself (ex. What do you do when you aren’t skating?):
When I am not skating I like to ride horses, twirl batons, and dance at the Merrimack Hall. I also love school. I like to read and draw pictures.
